I'm not sure all of the elements are recyclable unconditionally. But that category was a joke about a popular category in the NYT connections games.

And a good joke, at that! It was much appreciated in the world of 'connections.' I agree with you that not all municipalities would permit all those materials to be recycled. I know that not all plastics qualify here in Philadelphia. But each one of the items in your category does have its use for wraping things up.
