Smashing effort at cryptic, If I could ask one thing, could you edit and put in explanations as to how the clue was to be solved or why I did not get it e.g pip in poultry etc. Thank you

Some good cryptics here but I agree with stjohn as there are a few I didn't get- if you have time I'd love to see some explanations! I think I lack some film knowledge. Thanks for posting- clearly a lot of effort went in! :)

I agree with everything Lorna and stjohn have written, would love some explanations as that helps us to get on your wavelength to solve future ones. Keep 'em coming please, some of us really enjoy the cryptic grids. ty pingpong

“What causes pip in poultry” is a very iconic line from The 39 Steps
Frayed cluedo weapon - self explanatory
(de) Winter at Manderley - the de Winters live at the Manderley Estate in Rebecca
Tennis player meets psychopath - tennis is central to the storyline of Strangers on a Train, so if you’ve already worked out the Hitchcock connection this is very obvious.

Napoleon says oink - Napoleon is a pig in Animal Farm
Indira Gandhi killed - assassinated in 1984
Spanish Civil War memoir - storyline of Homage to Catalonia
John Flory further afield (US) - Flory is the protagonist of Burmese Days, which was originally called Further Afield

Master Bates, Loner - Mr Bates, Norman (self-explanatory)
Just like Austin Powers - Austin Powers is played by Mike Meyers
Dr plays with starlings - Dr Hannibal Lecter enjoys playing mind games with Clarice Starling
Butcher makes own face - Leatherface butchers his victims and makes a mask from their skin

Wide house of worship - Broadchurch, self-explanatory
Struggle to break Code - Endeavour Morse, again self-explanatory
AC12 doing their job - Line of Duty, self-explanatory
Mute traces of evidence - Silent Witness, self-explanatory

@ping ping - thank you for taking the time. Please do not think I was being negatively critical but where answers are not self explanatory, and one has to remember that not all players are conversant in the topics you choose, it is useful and helpful to add an explanation. E.g I had got 3 of the 4 Hitch (but still do not know pip in poultry, I am familiar with 3 versions of the film - which version is it?) Plus identifying or believing one has identified 3 of 4 links does not make something "obvious" if the fourth eludes one.

I am not an avid reader of George Orwell and the John Flory ref, though perfectly valid was over my head. I have absolutely no objections to my lack of knowledge, hence it is nice to get explanations.

Please do not feel offended, please do more, there are a number of people here that love cryptic style grids, Regards
