Not only can they make other words by putting S first, but they also make other words if replace the first letter with D: deep, dowl, dawn and duck are all words. That's the connection I noticed with them anyway! Now I know what you're going to say, dowl isn't a word, but apparently it is an obsolete term for the filaments of a feather, related to the word down.
