Fiendish stuff. Great ideas behind this, but to my mind at least you're asking a little too much.

Take the "Autumn" line, for instance. French, fine. Spanish, fine (although you need the ñ, really). German I didn't know, but that's on me; I don't think it's unfair to expect people to speak basic German. And then Scots Gaelic?? You require knowledge of a language spoken by only 1% of people in Scotland? Harsh.

Don't worry gridaddict, you're perfectly capable of making beautiful and elegant grids that are hard enough without going so obscure.

Fair enough comments - I am Scottish so I threw that in there to be a devil!

I enjoyed this grid. Like Wiz, I wouldn't refer to any of these as Middle Eastern except Riyadh, but since it accepted "Asian capitals" too, I'm content. I thought the Scottish Gaelic was fair game because the theme can be deduced from any two in that row (or from one in that row plus the English red herring), so there's no need to know all four.

good grid... didn't think I'd get it at first but had a lightbulb moment. Agree Riyadh and Muscat are middle-eastern... Kabul & Islamabad = Asian but as asian accepted, no quibble!
